The church of Sant'Antonino Martire is located in Ficarolo, a municipality in the province of Rovigo located at the southern tip of Polesine, in the territory that borders the left bank of the Po river. The church is dedicated to Antonino di Pamiers, a French saint and Christian martyr. The construction dates back to 1763, and was designed by the Ferrarese architect Gaetano Barbieri, the works lasted about ten years until 1772, but the facade remained unfinished, which remained for over a century with exposed bricks that deeply devalued its appearance and importance. The stucco and brick facade dates back to 1914, when it was decided to give the exterior of the building a facade that could lead to the interior; it was designed in pure neoclassical style while the interior is baroque. A characteristic feature of the church is the leaning bell tower, the construction of which began in 1777. Its great height (about 75 meters including the cross) makes it the third tallest in the whole of Veneto, preceded only by the bell tower of San Marco in Venice and that of the Cathedral of Santa Sofia in Lendinara. Also for its notable slope it reaches the top of the rankings, for the ratio between slope and height in Italy it is second only to the Tower of Pisa, hence the famous toponym assigned to the town: "Pisa del Polesine".
