Nice that you are watching this cabin ride on line 25 from Carnisselande in Barendrecht to Schiebroek in Rotterdam in the diversion via the City Hall in connection with work on the Kruisplein. The tram is specially provided with Feyenoord stickers because of playing in the Championa League; During this ride it is sometimes slippery on the track, this is due to the well-known leaves on the rails. The tram drives the leaves finely and this creates leaf pulp, an oily substance that makes the tram slide. The tram driver must adapt his driving style to this and start braking earlier and accelerate more carefully. In this slippery autumn period there is an increased chance of collisions, the driver must therefore pay extra attention and quickly anticipate (the mistakes of) other road users. At 13:20 you see a training truck get a green light at the same time as the tram that has a white light. Normally this would fit fine, but the training truck steered very wide, causing it to come close to the tram. This made me brake briefly and give a bell signal. The driving instructor intervened and brought the truck to a standstill, a great learning experience for the student. Sometimes when there are major events, an extra line can run, such as standard for a Feyenoord home game in De Kuip, when x-number of extra trams are deployed as Line 12. There are two tram depots where the trams are stored, the historic Kralingen depot on the Oostzeedijk and the modern Beverwaard depot on the Edo Bergsmaweg where maintenance is also carried out, both in Rotterdam. Since October 2024, I have been officially allowed to film with a GoPro Hero 9 while driving, in order to draw more attention to the work of the tram driver.
