The monastery of the Discalced Nuns of Ferrara was not founded, as was customary, by nuns from another monastery, but by a small group of young women, under the guidance of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers who had been present in the city since 1671. The church was blessed and opened for worship on 24 August 1788, the anniversary of the birth of the first Teresian monastery (Avila, 1562).
