Ferdi Tayfur Passed Away in Antalya One of the legendary names of Turkish music, Ferdi Tayfur, passed away at the age of 79 in the hospital in Antalya where he was receiving treatment. It was learned that the master artist passed away in the evening due to organ failure. The deceased artist’s body was brought to Istanbul by plane and transferred to Zincirlikuyu Gasilhanesi. A memorial ceremony will be held for Ferdi Tayfur on Saturday, January 4th at 12:00 at the Atatürk Cultural Center. Then, following the afternoon prayer, the funeral prayer will be held at the Emirgan Çınaraltı Mosque, and Tayfur’s body will be buried in the Yeniköy Family Cemetery. The death of Ferdi Tayfur, who lost his life in the hospital where he was receiving treatment, was met with deep sorrow in the art world. Yavuz Bingöl expressed his feelings through tears in his statement to SABAH as follows: “Müslüm Baba, Orhan Abi, Ferdi Abi… Their places can never be replaced. But Ferdi Abi was different. He was the Elvis Presley of Turkey.” In an interview years ago, Ferdi Tayfur, who spent his life as an interpreter of the feelings of millions migrating from villages to cities, once again brought up his will, “Let my life not be a movie.” Speaking to Günaydın in 2019, Tayfur said that he did not want his life to be made into a movie: “No, there is no need. They made Müslüm, but after he died. I do not want my life to be made into a movie after I die either. Documentaries have been made about me to date anyway. Our people know everything about me. I have always done my art with my heart and sincerity. The people notice this sincerity and love, and a strong bond has formed between us. This bond will never be broken.” Ferdi Tayfur was an artist who left his mark on arabesque music with his unforgettable songs such as “Hatıram Yeter,” “Emmoğlu,” “Bana Sor,” and “Sabahçı Kahvesi.” Stating that he lived a modest life despite his fame, Tayfur expressed his understanding of art with the following words: “An artist is not made, an artist is born. An artist works for his nation and country. Fame has never changed me. My people protected me, I walked freely among them. An artist should prioritize the interests of the country above all else.” MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli released an emotional message: “We have lost Ferdi Tayfur, the exceptional artist of Turkish folk and arabesque music. He was my brother, a master of voice and words who expressed my heart. He climbed from the cotton fields of Adana to the peaks of Turkish music and enthroned himself in the hearts of millions. His death has left a deep wound in my heart. May he rest in peace.” Will and Rights to His Songs Tayfur had stated that he wanted his songs to be listened to by everyone for free: “I made my songs for the people. I want people to listen to them and benefit from them. The income will be shared among the legal heirs. However, I want the people to be able to listen to my songs comfortably both when I am alive and when I die.” Ferdi Tayfur was among the four great names of Turkish music. Along with Orhan Gencebay, Müslüm Gürses and İbrahim Tatlıses, he was known as the “four horsemen of the apocalypse” of arabesque music. While an era ended with his death, he left a deep mark behind.
