We call on the authorities of the three levels of government to guarantee the safety of the candidates. The people want democracy, not aggression or violence. The Government of Mexico and the National Electoral Institute (INE) have an agreement to protect candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, the nine governorships, and the Congress of the Union. The state and municipal governments are responsible for the security of local candidates in collaboration with state electoral institutions. In extraordinary cases, the federal government would intervene at the request of the governments of the federative entities or the INE, based on the agreement reached, in order to guarantee protection to all. Our request to the United States government to provide resources to address migration is not blackmail. We insist on the importance of resolving this phenomenon through cooperation. The budget of 20 billion dollars a year would help reduce the migratory flow and the risks to which people are exposed during their transit. Mexico has made other proposals that could contribute to improving the living conditions of migrants, such as the regularization of Mexicans who have lived and worked honestly in the United States for more than five years and of young DACA recipients known as dreamers, in addition to not repressing compatriots.
