Twelve million people in Europe alone storm into McDonald's branches every day. When ordering and preparing food, one thing counts above all: speed. But how does the food giant manage to do this? And how can it make so much money from it? Five insiders explain: There is a sophisticated system behind the "fast food" business. They have worked for years in the restaurants and in the marketing department of McDonald's and know what goes on behind the scenes. To protect themselves, they appear in front of the camera wearing elaborate masks. Children's products are particularly lucrative for McDonald's: in 2019, around 25.7 million "Happy Meals" with toys were sold in Germany alone. McDonald's works closely with major toy manufacturers such as Mattel, LEGO and Hasbro to achieve this. But the children's menus are not just a nice gesture from McDonald's, they are calculated. The fast-food giant knows exactly how to bind customers to the company for life. The ordering process is also specified by the company down to the last detail. In order to speed up the ordering process, for example, employees are not supposed to ask any open questions. The time is precisely measured. Branches that work too slowly are reprimanded by the head office. McDonald's also promises its customers better animal welfare for burger meat and less packaging waste.
