Currently, the express trains that run between Osaka and Tottori are the Super Hakuto and Hamakaze, but in the past, many express and semi-express trains were operated. One of these, the Misasa Express, ran between Osaka and Tottori via the Tokaido Main Line, Sanyo Main Line, Kishin Line, and Inbi Line in its final days. This train was also coupled with the Mimasaka, which runs between Osaka and Chugoku Katsuyama. It was split and merged at Tsuyama. Furthermore, between Tsuyama and Tottori, it was coupled with the Sakyu, which runs between Okayama and Tottori. As shown in the video, the scene of shunting (splitting and merging) with passengers on board was already rare even in this era. Between Tsuyama and Tottori, it was a luxurious formation with 1.5 Green Cars (the green car on the Sakyu is Kiloha). However, with the March 1989 (Heisei 1) revision, the Misasa and Mimasaka were abolished. Express trains have disappeared from the Kishin Line (except Tsuyama-Higashi Tsuyama...). However, the Chugoku Highway Bus, jointly operated by JR West and Shinki Bus, has been running between Tsuyama and Osaka via the Chugoku Expressway for some time now, and the routes completely overlap, so the discontinuation seemed inevitable. The name of the train, "Misasa," refers to the Misasa Onsen hot springs in Misasa-cho, Tohaku-gun, Tottori Prefecture, "Mimasaka" refers to the old name of the northern part of Okayama Prefecture, and "Sand Dunes" refers to the Tottori Sand Dunes. At Tsuyama Station, ekiben (a type of station lunchbox that no longer exists) were sold, and customers were seen buying sweets and magazines at the platform kiosk, and the train was crowded with many express diesel cars. Also, on the Inbi Line, tablet blocks and semaphore signals remain, giving the train a taste of the good old railway atmosphere. Although it cannot be compared to today's HOT7000 series trains that run at 130km/h, there was still a certain charm to them that was unique to express trains, requiring express tickets, reserved seats and green tickets in addition to a regular ticket.
