The Failed Prison Escape - Facing Death: I Must Live! - Priest Nguyen Huu Le The story of Father Nguyen Huu Le's imprisonment is probably known to many people through the memoir written by the priest himself. But when the priest himself narrated the footage here, his emotions were still overflowing in each painful development, showing the courageous attitude of a priest: I Must Live! I Must Live! I Must Live! The priest's scream came at the exact moment of a person facing imminent death: When the person who wanted to harm him was approaching, the priest roared, used all his remaining strength to run back to his cell, grabbed the shackles to defend himself... And, finally, the priest regained his composure so as not to take out his hatred on the person who wanted to kill him. Stories from communist prisons in Vietnam have exposed the brutality of people who have lost their humanity: Ordering, inciting, assisting or participating in the persecution of others that often occurred in the “re-education” prisons of the communist regime. These tragedies have been and will be untold, and will never be forgotten in the modern history of Vietnam. The History Through Stories program of the Vietnamese Heritage Museum invites you to listen to the story of Father Nguyen Huu Le to feel the resentment that a priest should not have had to endure in his life… History Through Stories is one of the projects of the Vietnamese Heritage Museum to preserve stories in memory, directly through the stories of those who participated or were witnesses to modern historical events. This project is a research project aimed at collecting, archiving and explaining the history of Vietnamese refugees. Vietnamese refugees who survived need the opportunity to directly share their experiences, or witness the historical events of the nation, on the path to freedom, as well as the initial difficulties of settling and making a living in a foreign land. This is an opportunity to sympathize and understand each other better among refugee generations; at the same time, it also creates for future generations to understand, be proud of, and be grateful for the sacrifices and courage of their ancestors.
