Mercedes is at the top after Thursday's F1 practice sessions in Las Vegas, while Max Verstappen only occupies P17 on the timesheet. The Dutchman said that Red Bull could not get the tires to work, although Helmut Marko also pointed to another factor: a rear wing that would not be optimal for the fast street circuit. The Red Bull model would generate a bit too much downforce, but therefore also too much drag, which is not useful on the many straights in Las Vegas. Marije Dijkstra and Ronald Vording discuss Marko's words extensively in a new F1 update from the paddock. This also includes attention for Mercedes' speed, Lando Norris who is sceptical about McLaren's free practice sessions despite very promising data and the continuation of the skid block saga (with teams admitting that they had to change something).
