Muhammed Ceylan & Jarrod Cagwin After releasing 12 albums both at home and abroad, harpist Şirin Pancaroğlu is getting ready to meet her audience with her compositions in which she has written all the flavors of the music accumulated in her soul in her own way, and reveals her social sensitivities regarding both nature and humans. The second composition of this colorful selection, which she gathered under the title Alâim-i Semâ (rainbow), "Frigya'da Gün Batımı" invites the listener to watch the sunset both in the endless extensions of the Phrygian Valley and behind the rising rock formations. The piece, which is identified with Phrygia, known as the homeland of the Phrygian mode, or the Kurdi mode, is also in the Kurdi mode. In the composition, which contains a strong visuality, the sound of the ney carries the song of a sorrowful wind from afar. These two instruments, which occasionally meet in the melodies that progress with the calm but determined steps of the harp, dive together from a vast void where everything can be seen with the eye, into a deep and intense world inside a person. After an intricate improvisation reflecting from the inner worlds of the musicians, when the piece turns back to the void, that sorrowful melody heard at the beginning greets the listener with a different simplicity beyond familiarity; with the relief that comes after a forced confrontation, we watch the last rays of light of the day disappear behind a mountain. In addition to this journey, which is handled with great mastery by percussionist Jarrod Cagwin, Şirin Pancaroğlu, who sets out with a broad musical language, positions the ney both within and beyond tradition with Muhammed Ceylan's exquisite performance.
