Ezekiel 28 brings a message of divine judgment against the city of Tyre and its ruler. In addition, the chapter presents a lamentation over the king of Tyre, who is described in a way that suggests he is more than just a human being. Some interpretations suggest that this is a description of Satan. God highlights the pride of the king of Tyre, the fruit of his riches and splendor. However, his wicked behavior provoked God's wrath. The king of Tyre is someone so wicked that the Lord uses him as a figure of comparison to Satan himself. Beginning in verse 12, what some believe to be a description of the glory of the anointed cherub, who is today the Devil, begins. The description continues until verse 19. In this passage we see how the Lord clothed him with glory and how in the end, his heart became proud. The chapter also includes a prophecy of judgment against the city of Sidon, which was linked to Tyre. Amidst these messages of judgment, there is a promise of restoration and blessing for Israel, who would be established again in their own land and would enjoy divine protection and prosperity.
