Hot, short runway, precise calculations, a full deck, maximum takeoff weight, full thrust at takeoff. The return is not easy either: an airport with minimal technical equipment, without control in the middle of the ocean, where the runway lights are also switched on by the pilots. Special operation with a Boeing 737 between one of the smallest states in the world and one of the busiest airports, Hong Kong, dodging tropical storms. Aeropark guide Captain Ferenc Gaál spent one of the most exciting periods of his eventful and varied career in Palau in the Pacific Ocean, when they performed charter flights for the airline of the 20,000-strong island nation under the colors of Air Explore. What extra tasks did they have to solve before departure? How did they contact the Californian control in the middle of nowhere? How were they able to join traffic when they could not reach the control center by radio for hours? What did the pilots have to prepare for during the flights in Palau?
