In the 2015-2016 season, FC Twente fights to the death for its survival. And just when the club seems to have things back on track in terms of sport, the KNVB comes with bad news: FC Twente's past is so burdened that the club will lose its license. According to the club management, that means only one thing, namely the definitive end of FC Twente. The documentary 'Het Laatste Jaar van FC Twente' (The Last Year of FC Twente) depicts the drama through the eyes of the ordinary supporter. The VARA commissions director Geertjan Lassche to make this documentary at a time when the public thinks that most of the misery for the Tukkers has already happened. But when the camera starts rolling, at the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, the real rollercoaster has yet to begin. Because the club opposes the documentary - they don't want any onlookers -, this film opts for the perspective of the ordinary supporter. That turns out to be a good choice, because the 'white collars' leave the field one after the other, and the 'real' supporter remains. By letting the average fan have their say, insight is provided into what true club love is.
