An easy and varied excursion between Liguria and Piedmont: the ring of the Porale and Alpe mountains. We are between the municipalities of Ronco Scrivia (Scrivia valley) and Fraconalto (Lemme valley). Having left the vehicle in a large car park, the initial part of the route is on a road that first touches Castagnola and then Chiappa. A couple of hairpin bends after the latter, the real path begins in the direction of Cascina Alpe, which we reach after about an hour on an almost flat route alternating open and wooded sections. A slight climb leads to the summit of Mount Porale (835m): modest altitude for an open panorama that ranges from the sea to the Alps passing through numerous peaks of the Apennines. This is certainly the most panoramic part, moving across vast prairies! Always following the ridge that on one side slopes gently towards Voltaggio and on the other drops down to the centers of Porale and Banchetta, here we are at the top of Mount Alpe with its characteristic chapel. To close the loop, first follow a wide path that cuts across the side of the mountain and rejoins the asphalt road that we follow until we return to Castagnola.
