“Talad Noi” or “Talakkia” is one of the oldest Chinese communities in Thailand. In the past, this area was a very prosperous commercial area. People were walking around like they were in Hong Kong. Now that we’re exploring this old area, I’ll take you to find some ancient Chinese food. Some of these dishes are as old as 100 years old!! ‘Ped Thun Chao Tha’ is a legendary stewed duck that has been open for 50 years. Here, they use pickled duck with Chinese mustard greens, soft meat, thin skin, no fat, and the stewed soup has a mild Chinese herbal aroma that is not too strong. The taste is a bit salty, smooth, and well-balanced. ‘Chui Kuai Talad Noi 100 Years’, this shop still uses the traditional method of making it, which is using wet flour (milled from rice and steamed) topped with pickled turnips and mushrooms roasted in a charcoal oven until fragrant, and topped with chili sauce, sour and spicy to balance the taste. ‘Kuay Tiew Khae Si Phraya’, this shop has 5 types of Kha meatballs, each one freshly made. When you eat it, you will get the chewy, bouncy, and fragrant texture of both pork and fish. If you really want to eat the original recipe, you must order 'Clear soup vermicelli with fish balls' from 'Krua Jeng Ngo', a Thai-Chinese seafood restaurant that has a famous menu called 'Stir-fried morning glory noodles'. But this restaurant has another secret menu, 'Vegetarian steamed buns', a menu that made Jeng Ngo famous that the new generation of kids may not know. Now that the moon worship festival is approaching, I don't forget to stop by my regular shop, 'Bakery Hut', a rare auspicious dessert shop that uses my grandmother's old recipe that was exported abroad to develop a modern recipe. The 'mooncakes' here have more than 100 fillings to choose from, both traditional and modern, such as golden longan espresso, sweet fish sauce mango, yuzu orange, and the one that is like no other, custard lava. The highlight of this shop is the special dough recipe. The dough is thin, soft, and does not stick to your teeth like the old-fashioned desserts. And it will have a mellow sweetness because they use syrup that has been fermented for 5 years. This Mid-Autumn Festival, for those who are looking for new mooncakes that are both auspicious and delicious to eat, Uncle recommends Bakery Hut...
