A Walk Through the New Building of the State Tretyakov Gallery / The Peredvizhniki Exhibition. The State Tretyakov Gallery presents the central exhibition project of 2024, dedicated to the creative work of artists – members and exhibitors of the Society of Traveling Art Exhibitions, whom we call the Peredvizhniki today. The leading masters of the second half of the 19th century – V.G. Perov, I.N. Kramskoy, I.E. Repin, V.I. Surikov, A.I. Kuindzhi, A.K. Savrasov, I.I. Shishkin, V.D. Polenov, I.I. Levitan, V.M. Vasnetsov, I.M. Pryanishnikov, N.A. Yaroshenko and others – formed the core of the Society and entered the history of Russian art. Without them, the fate of Russian painting would have been different. Today, the Peredvizhniki movement has become the central system-forming phenomenon of Russian culture of that time. The choice of the project for the opening of new #spaces of the Tretyakov #Gallery on Kadashevskaya Embankment is not accidental. The creative rise of the Peredvizhniki in the 1870-1890s happily coincided with the period of maturity of the #collection of Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov. Their works became the core of the collection of the founder of the Tretyakov Gallery. Introducing new museum spaces to visitors, the #Gallery recalls its origins. #The exhibition has become the first large-scale project in the last 50 years dedicated to the legacy of the Peredvizhniki. Its goal is to update the art of Russian realism, to free itself from cliches in its perception. The exhibition includes both the most famous works of Russian art and little-known #paintings by the Peredvizhniki. Collected together, these works reveal a range of issues that worried artists and society, outline the features of their creative method and chart the path taken in the art of the last third of the 19th – early 20th centuries. Critical statements by contemporaries will tell about the complexities of perception, and the chronicle of the activities of the Association and archival documents will recreate the history in facts and show the versatility of the activities of the Association as an independent educational association of artists. #lecture #excursion #specialevents #exhibitionprogram #conference #tretyakovgallery #Tretyakovka
