The Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago ordered preventive detention for the former Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, accused of rape and sexual abuse by a subordinate. During an extensive 15-hour formalization, expert reports and testimonies were presented seeking to clarify the events that occurred after a dinner in September. Despite not finding conclusive elements of sexual activity, traces of Monsalve were found on the complainant's clothing. The former Undersecretary, who fainted briefly during the hearing, was sent to prison due to the seriousness of the crimes and the danger he represents for society, according to Judge Mario Cayul. The defense will appeal the decision to prove Monsalve's innocence, who will remain in Rancagua prison during the investigation. The plaintiff's lawyer stressed that the measure provides comfort to the complainant and her entourage, and a video was revealed that discredits the thesis of lack of control of the accused.
