Luke 24:13 That same day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about sixty furlongs from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking together about all these things that had happened. 15 And it happened that while they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself came near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 Then Jesus said to them, “What are you discussing as you go along?” And they stood still, saddened. 18 But one of them, named Cleopas, answered, “Are you the only one who has been to Jerusalem and does not know the things that have happened in these last days?” 19 And he said to them, “What are they doing?” And they said, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 We were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israel; but after all this, this is the third day since these things happened. 22 And some of the women who were with us surprised us by going to the tomb early in the morning. 23 And when they did not find the body of Jesus, they came back saying that they had seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 And some of our people went to the tomb and found out what the women had said, but they did not see him. 25 Then Jesus said to them, “O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to suffer and enter into his glory? 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. 28 And as they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if he would go on further. 29 But they constrained him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is now far spent.” And he went in to stay with them. 30 And it came to pass, as they sat at meat, that he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. 32 And they said one to another, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the way, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose up that same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and others with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what had happened on the way, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.
