King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide. He set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 2. Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent and summoned the satraps, governors, administrators, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 3. Then the satraps, governors, administrators, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces came to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4. Then the herald cried out with a loud voice, “The king commands you, O peoples, nations, and languages: 5. When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut, lyre, harp, and all kinds of musick, fall down on your faces and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6. And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be thrown into a burning fiery furnace.'" 7. When all the peoples, nations and languages heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbutton, lyre and all kinds of music, they fell down and worshiped the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 8. Then some Chaldeans came up and accused the Jews. 9. And they said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever! 10. Did you not make a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, lyre, harp and all kinds of music shall fall down and worship the gold image. 11. And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into the midst of a burning fiery furnace?" 12. Now certain Jews, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, whom the king had appointed to be governors of the province of Babylon, But these men, O king, do not respect you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up. 13 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was angry and wrathful and commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So they brought them before the king. 14 Then Nebuchadnezzar asked them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? 15 If you are ready now, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbutsu, zither, and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image I have made, well; but if you will not worship, you shall immediately be thrown into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hand?” 16 So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego said to the king, They answered and said, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17. If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18. But even if he does not, be it known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods or worship the golden image you have set up.
