Parable of the fig tree that withered. 8 When they were leaving Bethany, he was hungry; — and, seeing a fig tree in the distance, he headed towards it to see if he could find anything; However, having approached, he only found leaves, as it was not time for figs. — Then Jesus said to the fig tree, Let no one eat any fruit from you, which his disciples heard. — The next day, as they passed the fig tree, they saw that it had dried up to the roots. —Peter, remembering what Jesus had said, said: Master, look how the fig tree that you cursed has withered. —Jesus, taking the floor, said to them: Have faith in God. — Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Take yourself from there and throw yourself into the sea, but without hesitation in his heart, firmly believing, on the contrary, that everything he has said will come to pass, You will see that it actually happens. (S. Mark, 11:12 to 14 and 20 to 23.) 9. The fig tree that withered is the symbol of those who only appear to have a propensity for good, but who, in reality, produce nothing good; of speakers who have more brilliance than solidity, whose words carry a superficial veneer, so that they please the ears, without, however, revealing, when scrutinized, anything substantial for the hearts. One wonders what benefit those who listened to them derived from them. It also symbolizes all those who, although they have the means to be useful, are not; all utopias, all hollow systems, all doctrines lacking a solid foundation. What is most often missing is true faith, productive faith, faith that shakes the fibers of the heart, faith, in a word, that moves mountains. They are trees covered in leaves, but with buckets of fruit. That is why Jesus condemns them to sterility, because the day will come when they will find themselves dry to the roots. It means that all systems, all doctrines that have not produced any good for humanity, will fall to nothing; that all deliberately useless men, for not having put into action the resources they brought with them, will be treated like a fig tree that withered. 10. Mediums are the interpreters of Spirits; they make up, in the latter, for the lack of material organs through which to transmit their instructions. Hence they are endowed with faculties for this purpose. In current times of social renewal, they have a very special mission; they are trees destined to provide spiritual food for their brothers; they multiply in number, so that food abounds; There are them everywhere, in all countries, in all classes of society, between the rich and the poor, between the big and the small, so that they are not lacking at any point and so that it can be demonstrated to men that everyone is called. If, however, they divert the precious faculty granted to them from the providential objective, if they use it in futile or harmful things, if they put it at the service of worldly interests, if instead of seasoned fruit they bear bad fruit, if they refuse to use They use it for the benefit of others, if they do not benefit from it for themselves, improving themselves, they are like a barren fig tree. God will take away from them a gift that has become useless in them: the seed that they do not know how to make bear fruit, and will allow them to become prey to evil Spirits.
