This is an introductory video for the Fuchu Art Museum's special exhibition "Spring Edo Painting Festival: Art from the Land of Buddhas." The unique elephants painted by Ito Jakuchu, the cute puppies by Nagasawa Rosetsu, and the humorous Nishiki-e prints by Utagawa Kuniyoshi... Nowadays, when we think of Edo period painters, we tend to focus on their individual personalities, but this exhibition looks at various Edo period works that fascinate the hearts of modern people, focusing on the keyword "Buddhism," which was the basis of the work of the painters of that time. The exhibition focuses on paintings from the Edo period, but it also displays excellent Buddhist art from before the modern era, such as the 17-panel "Twenty-five Bodhisattvas Raigozu" (The Arrival of the Bodhisattvas), which was painted in the Muromachi period and is owned by Nison-in Temple in Kyoto. Please enjoy the beautiful and imaginative works born in the "Land of Buddhas."
