Plot (Source: Wikipedia; revised): During the summer holidays, Philipp Mannering meets the orphan siblings Jack and Lucy Trent and their talking parrot Kiki in a boarding school. When Jack and Lucy's uncle falls ill and they cannot visit him after the tutoring courses have finished, Philipp invites them both to spend the rest of the holidays with his aunt Polly and uncle Jocelyn in the "Felseneck" house on the coast, where they also meet his sister Dina. Jojo (later Joe), the aunt's somewhat strange servant, tells them adventurous stories about 'creatures' that are said to roam the cliffs at night and about the nearby Isle of the Dead. He constantly tries to keep an eye on the children. Nevertheless, they always manage to explore the coast on their own without being disturbed. They meet Bill, who calls himself Smugs, who is camping in a hidden bay. They quickly become friends. He has a sailing boat and teaches them how to use it. They also use the boat to explore the Isle of the Dead, where Jack is looking for rare birds. They come across counterfeiters who have set up a printing workshop in the disused copper mine. They suspect that Bill might be in cahoots with them, until Jack and Philip are locked up with Bill; because the gang's real contact on the mainland is Jojo! Bill's real name is Cunningham and, as a police inspector, he has been tasked with arresting the gang. When the counterfeiters blow up the mine, seawater breaks in and the three prisoners only just manage to escape. The gang is arrested as they leave the island because Bill alerted his colleagues in time. With the reward for catching the gang, Mrs. Mannering can buy a bigger house so that from now on all four children can come to her for the holidays. The Felseneck house is no longer inhabitable because the well has been filled with seawater as a result of the explosion. Source: shorturl. at/aAKL5
