If you don't change your engine oil regularly or even drive with the wrong oil, you have to accept that carbon will form which can clog filters and lines. We actually only wanted to replace the valve cover gasket on this BMW 5 Series ( • Replace valve cover gasket - BMW E... ), but we couldn't let the car out of the workshop without an engine flush. By adding an additive when the car is still warm, the deposits on holes and surfaces are loosened and kept suspended in the oil. The dirt can then be removed with a new oil filter before the old oil is drained and new oil is added.
