Energy drinks: How dangerous are they really? Ari meets Till, among others - Till was a competitive athlete and drank three to five energy drinks every day. You can see what the energy drinks did to his body and his health and when energy drinks become dangerous in the new PULS report. WHEN DO ENERGY DRINKS BECOME DANGEROUS? One person who has experienced first-hand how dangerous energy drinks can be is Till. Till was a footballer and trained and played six times a week. In order to keep up with training and work, he drank an average of four energy drinks a day. The result: cardiovascular problems, tiredness, insomnia and other health problems, so that he was on the verge of a heart attack - and that at the age of 18. The doctor sees the cause in the daily energy drinks. Only when he stopped drinking energy drinks did his health problems improve. And it is precisely because of such cases that doctors and consumer advocates are demanding that energy drinks should only be sold to people over 18. Energy drinks are particularly popular with children and young people, without knowing how dangerous energy drinks can be. MORE INFORMATION ON ENERGY DRINKS Around 68% of the young people surveyed between the ages of 10 and 18 consume energy drinks. Of these, around 12% are "highly chronic" consumers due to their average monthly consumption of 7 liters, and a further 12% are "highly acute" consumers. (Source: EFSA). It is undisputed that energy drinks can be harmful to health. In some EU countries, there are initiatives and government resolutions that regulate the sale of energy drinks. In Lithuania they are only legal from the age of 18, in Great Britain there is a voluntary agreement that energy drinks can only be sold from the age of 16 and in the Netherlands there are no under 14s. Germany is holding back: there should be no legal regulation here In the new PULS report "How dangerous are energy drinks really?" we ask about the long-term health damage caused by energy drinks and show what you have to watch out for when consuming energy drinks.
