MetroTV, ON Tuesday (7/1), two houses of PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto were searched by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In response to the KPK's move, some parties deployed a security team. In fact, there were also various verbal attacks against the KPK. We should call it an attack because it is no longer a protest or substantive criticism, but rather a random argument. Just look at some who accuse the KPK of playing a drama. Several parties from Hasto's close circle considered that Hasto's status as a suspect and the absence of state funds that were harmed made the search actually unnecessary. Recently, some also said that the search was a diversion from the OCCRP announcement that placed Jokowi as one of the most corrupt leaders in the world in 2024. Of course, the public is not naive about the political twists and turns that have long existed in this country. We are also not naive about the polemic between Megawati and Jokowi which is getting worse in the 2024 Presidential Election. However, these various attacks actually did not need to happen if everyone understood how the legal corridor works. Isn't a search part of the normal investigation process in any case? The suspect status or the size of the state's losses are not an issue as long as it is for the sake of collecting evidence by investigators. Therefore, let alone just two houses, Hasto's 10 houses deserve to be searched by investigators. The same applies to state losses. Even if the state loses a penny, the same legal process should be upheld. That is why, when the law runs in a clear corridor, there is no need for accusations of drama. It is time for various parties to be brave in facing legal cases with their various consequences. Belief in innocence, not being involved, or not engineering should be shown by supporting the immediate holding of a trial, by respecting all investigative processes carried out by the KPK, in accordance with their authority. The protraction of Hasto's case, which also means the protraction of Harun Masiku's case, is a debt that is equally borne by the KPK and parties who try to obstruct the progress of the investigation. The bribery case of the replacement of members of the DPR for the 2019-2024 period from the PDIP faction has been a legal sore in this country since 2020. The Hasto case is just one step towards resolving the long case of Harun Masiku. Instead of obstructing, various parties should be at the forefront of resolving this.
