Job 33:1 Hear, O Job, my words, and give ear to all my words. 2 Now I will speak; my tongue speaks in my mouth. 3 My words prove the integrity of my heart, and my lips utter pure knowledge. 4 The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 5 If you can, answer me; set your case before me and present yourself. 6 Behold, I am in the sight of God as you are; I too am formed from the clay. 7 Therefore I do not terrify you, nor will my hand be heavy upon you. 8 You have spoken before me, and I have heard the sound of your words: 9 I am clean, without transgression; I am pure and without iniquity. 10 Behold, God seeks out an excuse against me; he counts me as his enemy. 11 He puts my feet in the stocks and watches all my paths. 12 In this I answer you, you are wrong, for God is greater than man. 13 Why do you argue with him, saying that he gives you no account of any of his acts? 14 But God speaks one way and two ways, but man does not understand. 15 In a dream or in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while they slumber in bed, 16 then he opens their ears and seals up his instruction, 17 to turn man away from his purpose and to deliver him from pride, 18 to keep his soul from the pit and his life from perishing by the sword. 19 On his bed he is punished with pain, with constant strife in his bones; 20 so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food. 21 His flesh, which was seen, is gone, and his bones, which were not seen, are uncovered. 22 His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the messengers of death. 23 If there is an angel interceding with him, one of thousands, to show man what is best for him, 24 then God will have mercy on him and will say to the angel, “Redeem him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.” 25 His flesh will be restored to the vigor of his childhood, and he will return to the days of his youth. 26 He will pray to God, and he will be gracious to him; he will see God’s face with joy, and he will restore his righteousness. 27 He will sing before men and say, “I have sinned, I have perverted justice, and I have not been punished according to my deserved righteousness.” 28 God has redeemed my soul from going to the pit, and my life will see the light. 29 Behold, all this is the work of God, twice and thrice with man, 30 to bring back his soul from the pit, and to enlighten him with the light of the living. 31 Hear, therefore, O Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak. 32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee. 33 If not, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.
