Schönbrunn Zoo is in shock: Yesterday afternoon, the elephant girl Kibali suddenly died. The day before, Kibali only seemed a little weak - she showed no other symptoms. Nevertheless, she was under close observation. Yesterday she simply collapsed in front of the eyes of animal keepers and veterinarians and died immediately. "Next week we would have celebrated Kibali's second birthday. And now this stroke of fate. We can't believe that she is no longer here," said company spokeswoman Johanna Bukovsky. Kibali died of acute heart failure, which sadly can affect humans and animals of any age. The pathological examination confirms that unfortunately they were completely powerless. Bukovsky: "It was very important to us that mother Numbi was able to say goodbye to her young animal in peace, and then the rest of the herd. Numbi is now receiving a lot of attention from her keepers." Kibali was born on July 13, 2019. The little pachyderm took the hearts of visitors by storm. When she was born, Kibali weighed around 90 kilograms, but now she weighs 550 kilograms. Kibali was the third offspring for the female elephant Numbi, after Kibo and Tuluba. She was conceived through artificial insemination. Her father is a wild bull in South Africa. The name "Kibali" was chosen in an online vote. In the wake of the Corona crisis, Kibali once again gained fame as a "distance measure".
