The pumping station provided for the drainage of the combined polders Nieuwland and Leerbroek on the Linge. After wind pumping, it became a steam pumping station in 1881. In 1925-1926, the pumping station was converted into an electric pumping station. The old engine building was mainly retained; the boiler house was replaced by a machinist's house with workshop and transformer room. On that occasion, the pumping station was named 'Donk' after the then chairman of the polder. The pumping station consists of two electric motors, each driving a centrifugal pump.
