As most cars have 4 doors and each of them has an individual lock actuator, over the years of the car each of these doors may present some defect and we will talk about them now. This week I did a service on a Renault Clio that was not locking or unlocking one of the rear doors. I did the first analysis before opening the door lining and I immediately noticed that the pin moves very little up and down, not having enough travel to lock. Based on this first diagnosis, I started the tests. I already know that power is reaching the wires, but to find out if this current is enough, I put a 21W bulb in the wires and when locking and unlocking, I noticed that the bulb turns on very strongly. This shows that we have enough current to move the lock motor. The second test was to remove the lock actuator and manually move the door lock pin to see if it is heavy or light to move. In this test, I noticed that the lock pin was very heavy to move and the problem was inside the lock itself. I removed it to wash it well with kerosene to remove all the dust build-up and then lubricated it well with grease and anti-seize spray. The lock was not perfect, but it improved 70%, so I decided to reuse it. If it was still heavy, then it would need to be replaced. I put the lock back in the door and reinstalled the lock that was in the car. I noticed that the movement of the pin performed by the lock actuator was still weak, so I decided to replace the lock actuator with a new universal one. Now the pin moved really quickly and with a longer stroke. I tested the door and it worked perfectly. I finished the job by closing the lining and cleaning everything. The final finding was that the heavy lock had burned out the internal motor of the original lock actuator, so it was necessary to clean the lock and replace the actuator with a new one. This service takes on average 1:30 hours to be performed and can be charged at R$125.00.
