It is the site of articulation of three bones, including the humerus, radius, and ulna. The primary articulation of the elbow is between the distal humerus and the proximal ulna. However, there are additional articulations between the proximal radius and humerus, and between the proximal radius and ulna. Functionally, the elbow is a hinge joint that provides movement in only one plane: flexion and extension. However, it also facilitates movement of the hand in the form of supination and pronation of the forearm.
