From the banks of the Nile to the Libyan border, a desert with many different faces covers two-thirds of Egypt. The protagonists of the documentary did not choose the desert to flee, but to live in harmony with the land and its inhabitants. In this new episode, the focus is on populations living between tradition and modernity. We begin by following a veterinarian and a biologist who travel through the dunes, to work in the oases, where agriculture is the main resource. Their inhabitants lead a sedentary lifestyle, their inhabitants live from agriculture and herding. The biologist shows us the date palms, a legendary tree. Their existence is a symbol of life in these arid places. Then we go to the valley of Wadi Natrun, where we visit a monastery lost in the middle of the desert. The monks have settled here since the 16th century to maintain the traditions of Christianity. After completing higher education, they choose to go to the desert where they combine secular skills with technology. The monks of this monastery have a different relationship with time. Does the desert promote personal development? Finally, we'll take a look at the 4x4 of Fenouil, a Frenchman who has been passionate about the desert for decades, like a sailor who plows through the seas of sand. He reads the movement of the dunes and deciphers chance with the feeling of being at the origin of the world. It is an ocean of contrasts, of extreme universes, the desert and its tides of sand cleanse the soul. This documentary was produced by Patly Prod and was directed by Jean-Etienne Frère .
