In 2003, educator Susanne Kleinschmidt realized her dream: she founded the Manuka children's and youth home as a home for neglected and homeless children. Her goal: to create a safe and secure place for them, where everyone treats each other with respect. On the Manuka farm in a small village in Brandenburg, each child takes on tasks in the house and on the associated farm. Many children have a foster animal for which they are responsible. The project is their "baby", and the children like to jokingly refer to Susanne Kleinschmidt as the "mother" of the farm. She puts all her energy into working with the children, wanting to give them the security they did not experience in their families of origin. Since founding the farm, she has only taken a few days' vacation and is available day and night. Now she has reached the end of her strength: "I can't do this anymore, and I don't want to do this anymore. I just want to wake up in the morning and not have this obligation.” Susanne decides to treat herself to five weeks off: five weeks in Portugal, just with her two dogs. Without children and work - she has never experienced that before. Full of hope, she sets off in her camper van. But she can't relax: the further she is from her home in Manuka, the more lost Susanne feels, with no task at all. And then Corona breaks out. She is needed more than ever. The children cannot go to school for months, and there are not enough staff to cover all the shifts. Susanne is on duty around the clock. She feels that she is heading for a physical breakdown. But can she leave to look after herself? Would that be irresponsible towards her charges? What is more important: the well-being of the children or her own happiness? ????
