(Michele Murri recalls the time he spent in a mental hospital, Always Tell Him Yes) Always Tell Him Yes is a comedy in two acts written by Eduardo De Filippo in 1927; Since the third edition of 1962 it has been included in the collection entitled Cantata dei giorni pari. An erroneous printing in the 1962 edition of the Cantata, edited by Eduardo himself, places the date of composition at 1932, which is instead the date of performance. In the 1971 edition, also edited by the playwright, 1927 is correctly reported as the date of writing. The comedy was written by Eduardo for Vincenzo Scarpetta two years before the date of the first staging which took place precisely by Scarpetta in 1927. The revival by the company Teatro Umoristico I De Filippo was instead in 1932 for the direction of Eduardo, at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples and in the comedy, in addition to the three De Filippo brothers, among others, Tina Pica and Dolores Palumbo also act. The comedy, after the 1932 tour which touched Milan and Rome, was revived on 12 October 1955 at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome and, for television on 8 January 1962 (broadcast by Rai 2) for the direction of the same Eduardo. Another important performance for Ditegli sempre di sì, by Luca De Filippo's company, which brings it to the stage at the Biennale Teatro '82 in Venice and here too the direction is signed by Eduardo himself, while the part that was his in the previous performances (that of Michele Murri) is played by Luca. Further performances took place in the 1997-98 season directed by Luca De Filippo and, abroad, in Los Angeles, in 1997. Plot - Michele, just released from the asylum, returns home where his sister Teresa, who is the only one to know about his past madness, is waiting for him. Michele seems cured, but takes everything he is told literally and, believing that his sister wants to marry Don Giovanni, his landlord, he speaks about it to his daughter Evelina. At the birthday lunch of his friend Vincenzo Gallucci, another misunderstanding is generated by Michele who sends a telegram to Vincenzo's brother to announce his friend's death. In the end, Michele's madness becomes more evident again: he spreads the false rumor that the young Luigi, the suitor of Don Giovanni's daughter, is mad, and then tries to cut off the poor young man's head, to cure him; "The cause of all evil, where is it? In the head!" Michele is fortunately stopped in extremis by his sister who arrives and taken back to the asylum.
