[E] - Fatal accident [VU] involving a car versus a truck between Dornstadt [Scharenstetten] and Merklingen near Ulm. The fire service is securing the truck against further slipping and tipping over. [ At around 11:20 a.m., a BMW driver was travelling from Merklingen towards Scharenstetten. For reasons that are still unclear, he ended up on the right-hand verge on the sloping stretch before the bridge over the A8. When he counter-steered, he first grazed the front of an oncoming truck from the Karlsruhe area. Then the BMW crashed into its trailer. An initial indication that the BMW driver might have overtaken has not yet been confirmed. The truck veered off the road to the left and got stuck in a field below. The trailer came to a stop across the road, wedged with the BMW from the Stuttgart area. The 27-year-old BMW driver, whose identity was only established in the afternoon, and a 26-year-old passenger in the back suffered fatal injuries. The 22-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries. The 45-year-old truck driver was taken to hospital by the emergency services; according to initial findings, he suffered minor injuries. The rescue helicopter also rushed to the injured person's aid, and the emergency chaplaincy was also on duty. A crane vehicle had to be brought in to recover the truck. The closure of the state road continued into the late afternoon, and traffic will continue to be diverted until the work is completed. The damage to the vehicles amounts to around 80,000 euros.
