In the Bernese municipality of Köniz, up to 40 people die a lonely death every year. When Stefan Kiener opens the door, he notices an unpleasant smell. For days, the body of a woman lay in her apartment - unnoticed by the other residents of the apartment building. "The woman in her mid-fifties was lonely and an alcoholic, which ultimately led to her death," Kiener discovered during his research. As the so-called sealing officer in Köniz, he is responsible for securing the valuables of the deceased. In doing so, he is repeatedly confronted with the issue of loneliness. Up to 40 people die a lonely death every year in the Bernese municipality.
