In the Bernese municipality of Köniz, up to 40 people die a lonely death every year. When Stefan Kiener opens the door, he notices an unpleasant smell. For days, the body of a woman lay in her apartment - unnoticed by the other residents of the apartment building. "The woman in her mid-fifties was lonely and an alcoholic, which ultimately led to her death," Kiener discovered during his research. As the so-called sealing officer in Köniz, he is responsible for securing the valuables of the deceased. In doing so, he is repeatedly confronted with the issue of loneliness.
