Since 180 nationalities of the world come here for work and tourism, absolutely everyone speaks English here. For me, the biggest and most pleasant surprise was the perfect language skills. Under the benevolent mask of the emirates, there are very strict rules and conditions. Both for immigrants and tourists. You don't delay the fine here or negotiate it, you can only increase it. You will be fined if you do not wear a mask, throw away trash or chew or eat in the subway. Drinking alcohol is a crime. The rules are strict but necessary and in a way make a lot of sense in this cocktail of nationalities. As a tourist, you will feel safe and pampered. Everywhere there is perfect cleanliness, luxury and a relaxed atmosphere. The locals are calm, dignified, accommodating and willing. As women, you will not be harassed by verbal expressions or unpleasant looks, which we may encounter more often in some parts of Europe. For the locals, this behavior is not appropriate and is not tolerated. For ladies, however, I warmly recommend looser opaque clothing, covered shoulders, neckline and knees for a better feeling. Expect a bit more spirited behavior at the markets in Old Dubai. Merchants try to attract the attention of tourists at any cost. Practice bargaining. You can usually negotiate 30 to 50% down and find out the usual prices of the goods in advance. Here you can buy great figs, Arabic spices, teas and beautiful scarves. Buy valued goods at the markets. It is more expensive, but fresh and of good quality. You can buy packaged cheaper in supermarkets. The Emirates seems to be a perfect country, but it has its own clear rules. These rules are set by the sheikh, who rules an absolutist monarchy. Dubai has a lot of them and you can't take them away.
