Dropped out of college, what now? Renke is 23 and he dropped out of college. Instead of dentistry, he opted for a dual forestry course. He is just beginning a new phase of his life: his new job started a week ago. Renke's father was not at all happy about the decision. Reporter Anna also has experience of what it's like to drop out of college. For her, it was law. Although she has a good job today, she finds it difficult to talk about changing courses. She does it for the report and asks herself: Why does it feel so bad to drop out of college? ???? There are more and more students in Germany. In the 2021/22 winter semester, around 2.9 million students were enrolled at a German university. In the 2022 academic year, almost half a million new students enrolled for a degree. But: A lot of them drop out again. According to the German Center for Higher Education and Science Research, 28 percent of bachelor students in the first years of 2016 and 2017 dropped out of their studies. ???? Students who drop out don't always have a plan B. But there is now a wide range of counseling services for students who are unsure or have already dropped out - or who are perhaps planning to change their course of study.
