Freud's psychoanalysis redefines the nation of Trieb, translated as drive or impulse, where it refers not only to the physical but also to the psychic aspect. Freudian drives have been thought of and elaborated in different ways in the history of psychoanalytic theory as fundamental elements for clinical work. The presentation of this theme seeks to briefly look at the history of the notions of instinct and drive and their importance for psychoanalysis.
