What is a dream? What is its role in our species? Do other animals also dream? To explore this topic, we brought researcher Dr. Sidarta Ribeiro. In this episode, we explore the evolutionary aspects of dreaming, dream behavior in other animals, the role of dreaming in our cultural construction and the use of dreaming as a therapeutic tool. Sidarta Ribeiro is a full professor of Neuroscience and vice-director of the Brain Institute at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasília (1993), a Master's degree in Biophysics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994), a PhD in Animal Behavior from Rockefeller University (2000) and a Post-Doctorate in Neurophysiology from Duke University (2005). He has experience in the areas of neuroethology, molecular neurobiology and systems neurophysiology, working mainly on the following topics: Sleep, dreaming and memory; neuronal plasticity; vocal communication; symbolic competence in non-human animals; computational psychiatry, neuroeducation, psychedelics and drug policy.
