In the Historical Session podcast, Dr. Talal Al-Toraifi hosts Dr. Richard Mortell to turn with him the pages of a personal and scientific history spanning nearly half a century. Richard Mortell is an assistant priest who was inspired by the beauty of Arabic calligraphy to study Arabic. This experience then led him to convert to Islam, moving from America to Egypt and from there to Riyadh in 1977 to live with the Saudis on the journey of building their state and to be a historical witness to every cultural, social and urban change. Since then, our guest has rejoiced at every Saudi achievement and has focused his scientific research on studying Saudi Arabia and its history, especially Mecca in history (the Middle Ages). These studies have received the attention and care of researchers. Many beautiful stations were given attention and discussion in this episode.
