Fyodor Dostoyevsky was a Russian philosopher and novelist best known for his novels Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov. Dostoyevsky was born into a middle-class family, where his father worked as a doctor. He had a kind heart, which led him to fight corruption and help poor farmers. In 1846, he published his first novel, Poor Folk, which was a huge commercial success. Dostoyevsky's experience of being exiled in Siberia for four years influenced his later writings. He achieved fame despite his deteriorating financial situation due to his gambling addiction. His most notable novels include Notes from Underground, The Idiot, Demons, and Crime and Punishment. He married the widow Maria Dmitrievna Isayeva in 1857, and after her death, he married Anna Grigorievna Snitkina. Dostoevsky died a few months after publishing The Brothers Karamazov from a lung hemorrhage resulting from his epilepsy.
