This video is complicated. That is why in this intro, instead of using stock images, I am showing my face. First, because it is the typical video that my channel “advisers” advise me not to make. Second, because it entails a great responsibility. But I think that this information is important for you to know. #cars #autos #usedcars Become a member of this channel to enjoy the benefits: / hermetic garage There are many, many, many reliability lists. Honestly, many of them do not inspire confidence in me. There are some like “Consumer Report”, American, which is a good study, but very focused on the American market, a very special market. Something similar happens to me with the OCU, the Consumer Organization, whose study system does not seem to me to be the best and they are not specialists. And for example JD Power makes its lists… at the same time as it offers brands its services to improve their image of reliability… you can't be “judge and party”, more quotes… Among the many organizations that are dedicated to preparing annual rankings with the most and least reliable cars on the market, I like the one made by the TÜV, a German organization specialized in issuing certifications of various kinds that, among other things, the German ITV, exemplary, and which brings together different test centers in which the construction quality of the models in circulation is measured, from the most modern to those that are more than 10 years old. I found the ranking of the most and least reliable cars on the market interesting, after studying the results of the ITV and testing 221 between July 2022 and June 2023. In short, the German TÜVs have good data and for me they are very independent… Some will think “independent, they sure support German brands”. Well, you will see that this is not the case. In any case, whatever the study, there are common conclusions. Let's talk about brands: Jaguar and Land Rover have a serious reliability problem, something that urgently needs to be solved, because they are attractive cars, which go very well, but which have "resurrected" the old ghosts of English cars... But let's talk about technology and technologies. About technology in terms of the propulsion system, because you might imagine that electric cars are more reliable... and that is not the case. Conventional cars require more maintenance, but in general, they are more reliable. And more so than hybrids which, to put it simply, with two types of technology, have two systems that can break down. According to JD Power, the most reliable cars are conventional thermal cars, followed by hybrids, plug-in hybrids and, finally, electric cars. I remind you that these studies are generally based on breakdowns that either leave you stranded or force you to go urgently to the garage. When I talk about “technologies” in the plural, I mean the amount of systems, equipment and “nonsense” as a friend of mine says, that cars have. If it seems that the most expensive and sophisticated cars should be the most reliable, it is not so, because the cheapest cars, and therefore simpler, have less things to break… my father used to tell me this, used to live with his “rocky”… more quotes! Renault 6 when it came with a modern car came full of gadgets… and without the need for any study. As I was saying, the German TÜV does this study by age ranges. We have talked about specific models and a little bit of sidetracking about brands, but I want to dwell on this. Let’s go to the “positive” side of these studies, the most reliable. I’m sure that if I ask you about a brand and a country you will almost all get it right: Indeed, Lexus and Japan tend to be the leaders in all the studies. I told an anecdote about Lexus that I won't repeat... I've already mentioned another coincidence: On the negative side, Jaguar and Land Rover also tend to lead. But in many studies, for example, the one by the OCU, Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW and Volvo appear among the 10 least reliable brands. The question is: If I'm going to buy a new or used car, how do I avoid buying a problematic car? I'm going to give you two solutions: The first: Information. Gather all the information you can about the car or cars you're interested in. Because bad information isn't "binding" ... more quotes! But several are. But I'll give you another perspective: It's better to have a delicate, well-cared-for car than a reliable one that's mistreated. If you buy a new car, taking care of it doesn't guarantee that it won't give you problems, but it helps. And if you buy a used one, being confirmed that it has been properly maintained doesn't guarantee that it won't give you problems... but the opposite, that it isn't well maintained, does guarantee that it will give you problems.
