The beauty of the small island of Socotra is uncommon. Although it is part of Yemen, it is absent from Middle Eastern news bulletins. Even those who know the region well have never set foot on the island, but they are fascinated by it and eager to travel there. Socotra is located off the coast of the Horn of Africa. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, primarily due to its natural treasures, and is distinguished by the unique phoenix blood tree. The island is characterized by a charming calm and is located 400 km from the southern coast of Yemen. The war is far away, and tourism somewhat drives its economy. Tourists from the Emirates visit it to practice water sports and to buy land there. They have money, while the locals do not, and are worried about losing control of their island, while some are happy with the economic growth that is happening thanks to Emirati and Saudi support. #Documentary #DocumentaryDW #DW #Socotra #Yemen #Socotra_Island ــــ A call for dialogue at DW: https://p.dw.com/p/OYIo More documentaries can be found on our websites in English: http://www.dw.com/ar/tv/docfilm/s-3610 / dwdocumentary / dw.stories
