The Assad regime in Syria has fallen, and more than 30,000 people have been freed from its prisons, but more than 100,000 Syrians remain missing, and families are searching for their relatives, like Hind Gharzeddine, who is searching for her son Hussam. Together with her son Ahmed, she is searching for her eldest son Hussam, who disappeared eight years ago, in hospitals, morgues, and the notorious Saydnaya prison. She is one of many families in Syria who still cling to the hope that their relatives are still alive somewhere. For Ahmed, the search in Saydnaya prison near Damascus is particularly painful, as he was also imprisoned there in 2018. The horrors he experienced there have never left his mind. Like Hind and her family, thousands of Syrians are searching for their missing family members. Pictures of recovered bodies hang on the walls of a hospital. Many of the victims’ bodies are badly mutilated, making the search all the more painful. From inside Saydnaya prison, Ahmad describes the horror of the prison conditions and the brutality of the torture, and how he lived on December 8, when he and the other prisoners were freed. They have not found any trace of his brother Hussam yet, but the family continues to search. ـــــ #Documentary #DW #dwdocs #Syria #Saydnaya ـــــ Invitation to dialogue at DW: https://p.dw.com/p/OYIo More documentaries are available on our websites in English: http://www.dw.com/ar/tv/docfilm/s-3610 / dwdocumentary / dw.stories
