It was only after the war in Ukraine that the German government realized that Russia had long been using gas as a weapon. How did this happen? And what were Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plans? This film takes a behind-the-scenes look at the gas monopoly Gazprom, and shows the rise of the empire, from the collapse of the Soviet Union, through Russia’s golden years, to President Vladimir Putin’s restrictions, arrests and property seizures that followed. The film was shot before Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, but that wouldn’t be possible today.
