Portugal stands out in Europe due to the fact that young people remain in their parents' home until the age of 34, a higher average than in other countries. At the same time, the real estate market in Portugal became a global discovery, with house prices in Lisbon exceeding the national average by 336% and, in the Porto metropolitan area, by 191%. Furthermore, interest on loans has increased significantly. In this scenario, how can Portuguese people face the difficulties of buying a house in Portugal or choosing to rent? The situation is illustrated by Leonor Rodrigues, a student from Guimarães who studies in Porto, who pays 350 euros for a room in precarious conditions in an overcrowded house. The public offer of student accommodation can only serve 14% of displaced students. The documentary «Portugal: a house for everyone» explores these issues, focusing on the uncertainties in the real estate sector, from instability in Portuguese legislation to the growth of local accommodation and its impact on the shortage of housing supply. This co-production between the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation and RTP, with narration by journalist Carlos Daniel, questions whether the decisions taken are the correct ones to guarantee access to housing in Portugal.
