Jorge Babalaô, also known as Jorge da Fé em Deus, a neighborhood in São Luís where the Terreiro de Iemanjá is located, is one of the most famous priests in Maranhão. The cult held in his house is the Tambor-de-Mina, a religion brought by African slaves who arrived here to work in the cotton and sugar cane plantations at the end of the 18th century. This documentary shows a little of his life and the mysteries of his festivals, voduns, orixás, enchanted nobles and caboclos, wrapped in the songs and religious rituals that made Maranhão the guardian of the Tambor-de-Mina in Brazil.
