Abu Sulayman Khalid ibn al-Walid ibn al-Mughira al-Makhzumi al-Qurashi (30 BC - 21 AH / 592 - 642 AD) was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad and a Muslim military leader, nicknamed the Drawn Sword of Allah by the Prophet Muhammad. He was famous for his brilliant military planning and his skill in leading Muslim armies in the Ridda Wars and the conquest of Iraq and the Levant, during the reigns of the Prophet's two successors Abu Bakr and Umar over the course of several years from 632 to 636. He is considered one of the few military leaders in history who were undefeated in a battle throughout their lives, as he was undefeated in more than a hundred battles against numerically superior forces from the Byzantine Roman Empire, the Persian Sassanid Empire and their allies, in addition to many other Arab tribes.
