Did Jesus Christ, who Christians consider the Son of God, actually live? Historians and scholars are searching for traces of the historical Jesus. Can the 2,000-year-old mystery that has haunted so many be solved? For more than two billion Christians, Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross; the Messiah who rose from the dead and whose birth is so significant that it marks the beginning of the calendar used in many parts of the world today, the Gregorian calendar. For two millennia, the Christian faith has referred to Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection, and it is the central doctrine of the Christian churches. Only with the Enlightenment in the 18th century was the question of the historical Jesus truly examined outside of religious discourse. Who was Jesus? Was he a human being born of flesh and blood? Did the central figure of the Christian faith actually exist? Evidence from the Gospels and ancient writings is being pieced together like the pieces of a mosaic to explore the life of Jesus. But how much historical credibility can we attribute to texts written several decades after Jesus’ death? Especially when we consider that the four official Gospels contradict each other on many points. There are many things we think we know about Jesus that researchers wonder about: Was he really born on December 25? What was his life like before he began his ministry? Where exactly is his grave? By exploring historical sites in Israel, Palestine, Egypt and Jordan and using the latest scientific methods, can historians today finally uncover the secrets of Jesus’ life? ـــــ #Documentary #DW #Christ #Jesus ـــــ An invitation to dialogue at DW: https://p.dw.com/p/OYIo More documentaries are available on our websites in English: http://www.dw.com/ar/tv/docfilm/s-3610 / dwdocumentary / dw.stories
