To mark the 80th anniversary of aviation in Cologne - celebrated as the "Spirit of Cologne" - the DO-24 ATT flying boat piloted by Iren Dornier landed on the Rhine between the Zoo Bridge and the Hohenzollern Bridge on May 20, 2006 at around 3 p.m., commemorating the landing of the DO-X at the same location. The three-engine flying boat was built in 1944. It was used as a sea rescue aircraft in Spain until 1971, and in 1983 was equipped with new engines and newly developed trapezoidal wings and a landing gear as an Amphibious Technology Carrier (ATT). It was then placed in a museum and released after 10 years by Iren Dornier (grandson of the legendary German aircraft designer Claude Dornier). The Do 24 ATT was extensively restored a second time and made airworthy again, and set off around the world with Iren Dornier at the controls. While participating in the Scalaria in July 2015 on Lake Wolfgang, the Do 24 ATT was damaged by driftwood during a water landing, but was able to be towed and moored. After temporary repairs and a transfer first to Salzburg and finally to Friedrichshafen, the Do 24 ATT was handed over by Iren Dornier to the Dornier Museum there on September 11, 2021.
